Course Objectives
Understanding the concepts and principles of Operations Management in order to implement them in industrial and service firms. Further enhancement of these concepts and techniques as well as quantitative methods in Operations Management in order to prepare students to do research at both Master and Ph.D. level.
Course Description
(Α) OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT: Introduction and Assignment of case studies and projects to the students. The strategic role and objectives of Operations. Operations strategy. DESIGN: Process design, The design of products and services, Supply network design, Layout and flow, Process technology, Job design and work organization. PLANNING AND CONTROL: The nature of planning and control, Capacity planning and control, Inventory planning and control, Supply chain planning and control, Enterprise resource planning (ERP), Lean operations and JIT, Project planning and control, Quality planning and control. IMPROVEMENT: Operations improvement, The Total Quality Management (TQM) approach. The operations challenge.
(Β) SERVICE MANAGEMENT: The role of services in modern economy. Service strategies. e-Services, The Service Profit Chain. Demand and Supply strategies.
(C) QUANTITATIVE ANALYSIS IN OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT: Project Management, PERT/CPM, PERT/TIME, Inventory Control Models, Forecasting Models, Waiting Line Models, Queueing Network Models, Linear Programming Models and Simulation applied to Operations Management. The software packages SOLVER of EXCEL, LINDO and MICROSOFT PROJECT. The Just-In-Time (JIT) Game.
(D) Presentation of case studies and projects by the students.
(E) CASE STUDIES by Senior Managers on various topics of Operations Management.
